Selective Service in the United States
The Selective Service System is also known as the Draft. The draft is when the military picks random men over 18 to go to the army and fight in the war.
In the draft towns and cities would post a public board to classify registrants to determine whether they were exempt from military service. Their are many types of categories that would be posted on the public boards. For example: A class would be 1-A and the category would be available for unrestricted military service.
The draft was put together on May 18, 1917 by the Selective Service Act of 1917. The draft gave the president and the people in the government the right to draft men over 18 to military service. After they made the act they decided it would make the people of the day want to join the army to support the army, however, it didn't inspire people to join so they had to re due the act on September 16, 1940. The United States abandon the draft in 1973 by the president Richard Nixon.
Today the question remains, should the government re-introduce the draft? We have a law that all U.S men that turn 18 have to register with the Selective Service within 30 days of their birthday. Other men that are not native U.S citizens register between the ages 18 to 26. For now, the draft is on hold. However who knows, maybe in a couple of years the draft will be re introduced.

I don't think that the draft is a good idea. Just because someone is between the ages of 18-26 doesn't mean that they are capible of being in the war
I think drafting people into the army is bad. People should have a choice on whether or not they wanna fight.

i think drafting people is a bad idea because some people cant and some people dont think that the war is even worth it, so why would they want to fight in it??
I really don't like this idea, I don't even see the point of the war in Iraq it's just really dumb.
I don't think that drafting is a good idea. They should just let people volunteer to fight and not force them to go.
i think that they should only draft if theres a major shortage in volunteers. otherwise it should be their decision

Drafting in my opinion is a bad idea. Why sacrifice people to the war who can't or don't want to fight. Not all people are able to go into war, and shouldn't be forced to fight.
Being in the war is life threatening . Unless you want to be in war i dont think you should be in the draft
Drafting is tearing apart families and killing people that never should have died. I hope it never comes back.

Right now i think the draft is bad. however, if we start loosing volenteers that want to go to the army then i think we should have a draft.

The draft scares me! I don't wanna have my big brother taken away to fight in a war!!!!!! People should have a choice! How is is showing our freedom as Americans if we don't get to choose to go into the army or not? Thats not freedom at all!
I think that if a draft is necessary then nothing any one says is going to stop it. However i do think i draft will be necessary if things keep going like this. Maybe thats why some things need to be stopped

i dont think the draft is right just because your in that age group doesnt mean that you should be pushed off into the war.
The draft is not a good idea. it forces people into taking other people's right to live. it even says in the 10 commandments to not kill people.
But what i really think it is is a conspiracy theory. If you're in college, you have a valid excuse to not be affected by the draft. i think that the government is trying to keep the education level of the US higher by keeping more people in school.
